Setup Kiosk to use websites

Hello, I am new to this and I am wanting to set up kiosk mode to allow the user to go to three websites and enter data. What is the best way to lock down the device and only allow navigation to these three websites without access to anything else on the device? I also would like the ability to do geo tracking, disable the ability to reset the device and be able to lock the device if it has been stolen. I see the ability to use an app like chrome, but I do not see any granular settings that can be set for the app.

Hello Dave,

Yes, you can certainly use chrome app to achieve the functionality. For granular settings of the app (apps that support managed configurations, such as chrome browser), go to the apps section of the provisioned device in your dashboard. Find the app in the list, click on the 3 dots (located on the right hand side of the app) and click on managed configurations. This should open up a pop-up where you can enter certain values.

Eg. posted below.

{
  "URLBlacklist": [
    "*"
  ],
  "URLWhitelist": [
    "https://esper.io/",
    "https://google.com/"
  ],
  "HomepageLocation": "https://esper.io/",
  "ForceGoogleSafeSearch": "true",
  "IncognitoModeAvailability": "1"
}

You can try copying this code and adding it to your managed configurations.

And as for your other questions, we do support geo tracking, factory reset protection and lock the device remotely. For more info. Please take a look at our documentation link: https://docs.esper.io/home/

Hope this helps.

I got this to work with your instructions, thank you.

With this I had to create a webpage with the three links I wanted to give access to, and when the user is finished in the selected webpage, they can press the home button to return to the home page.

Are there any other options I can configure for Chrome like hiding the address bar, turn off saving passwords,  and not allowing the user to modify the browser settings? I wouldn't mind going full screen, but I don't know how they would be able to access the home page or any other of the three pages.

Thank you for your help.

Dave

Hello Dave,

We're glad to hear that chrome managed configuration is working for you as expected. As for your other questions on other configurations, full screen/hiding address bar may not be feasible in mobile version of chrome. But if you want to lock the device to use just one app, you can set the app to kiosk mode, which will pin this app to the screen and other apps will not accessible.

For more configurable options of chrome, click on Apps tab which is present on the left side of your dashboard. Then click on Play Store, from there search Google Chrome. After you click on it you'll get a screen like this:-

Click on Select, this will open a plethora of configurable options for your to set and manipulate.
P.S. if you make changes here, it will take effect on all the devices in your endpoint which has chrome installed. So bear that in mind.

Hope this helps.
